John Immigrated from Ireland and settled in Sunderland, opening a general store on the right hand side of what was Dimos Restaurant. As the town grew he also grew, building and opening the store that is now on the corner of Main and School street. When he moved , the building next to Demos became the post office. Once the lease for the post office was up the office moved to the small building on South Main Street, West side. John lived the rest of his life as a Sunderland residents, widely admired and respected. Description An account of the resource This image is a 1916 view looking West across North Main Street with Sugar Loaf on the distant left and North Sugarloaf on the right. The farm on the right served as the Oliver Williams Tavern from 1781 thru 1824. The original house was built in 1718, had later additions added and was taken down during the early 1960's along with all of the out buildings. The house on the middle was built in 1718 and is the earliest extant house in Sunderland (October 2021). The house was used during the early 20th century to house workers for the Williams family farm. The second image is of the tavern in December of 1916. The third image is a view from the South in 1916. The fourth image is members of the Williams family on a two horse carriage and the fifth image in their "Metz" car. The sixth image is the tavern sign.
