Cloth made by native Hawians brought to Sunderland by 19th century missionary Juliette Montague Cooke. Made from the inner bark of certain trees by hammering it into thin sheets.

Juliette Montague Cooke. Note on donated item says "Specimen of cloth brought from the Sandwich Islands by the first missionaries who went there- they were given to my grandmother Mrs. Horatio Graves of Sunderland, Mass. She kept them in a corner cupboard in the parlor with other curios. These missionaries were her friends. Gertrude M. Graves. Given to Swampfied Historical Society by Miss Louise Graves, daughter of John L. Graves.
