Tifft / Graves Wagon Correspondence

Letter of correspondence between Jonathan G. Tifft, Probably of Morehouse New York and Sunderland merchant Horatio Graves. The Graves store was located on the present day site of the Graves Memorial Library.

Sir I wish you to send us by return of mail what you can furnish us a good one horse wagon with a square board box on it set level and the springs to set inside of the box, timber of the first rate and well put together, say something like one of Billings only a square box in the room of the kind of boxes he makes.....................illegible..............if the price suits. I do not know but we may like to get another or two of Billings soon but shall want them low.

p.s. We have just completed a pattern for a plow called the corn cultivator or double mold board plow for plowing corn or ..... broom corn or Indian corn. We have also wooden one and find it to work well and it is the opinion of all that has seen it that it will be fine- We could furnish you soon- We shall call the first opportunity for the planned wagon that you have for us at Graves.

I will try and tell you a little plainer about the springs in the box I want the springs to extend from one end of the box to the other so as to slip the seat back and forth or will best convene it to the loading and do not want any springs under the box but set wright down on the bolsters-
