John McGrath
John McGrath at age 89 reflects on his fifty years of living in Sunderland. John Immigrated from Ireland and settled in Sunderland, opening a general store on the right hand side of what was Dimos Restaurant. As the town grew he also grew, building and opening the store that is now on the corner of Main and School street. When he moved , the building next to Demos became the post office. Once the lease for the post office was up the office moved to the small building on South Main Street, West side. John lived the rest of his life as a Sunderland residents, widely admired and respected. You cannot imagine his generosity to the people that came in and could not pay for food, heating etc.
