Samuel Montague Family Bible 1718

Samuel Montague (1695-1779) was one of the first 40 settlers of Sunderland. This page from his Bible contains records of birth, marriage and deaths recorded by his wife Elizabeth (White). The Bible was passed down to his grandson David (1757-1839).
The first entry was the marriage of Sam and Elizabeth in 1718, pre dating the town and the last being the death of Luther in 1824.
Samuel Montague was a member of the ecclesiastical council held in Northampton in 1750 which resulted in the removal of Rev. Jonathan Edwards.
